Experience free gear repair, sewing education, and community support through the Duluth Sewing Project in Duluth, MN.
The Duluth Sewing Project is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to meeting practical needs with compassion, creativity, and skill. We provide free repairs of essential gear—such as backpacks, tents, and outerwear—for members of the unhoused and low-income communities in Duluth, helping extend the life of items that are critical for safety, mobility, and daily survival.
Our work is rooted in dignity and sustainability. By repairing and repurposing gear, we reduce waste while ensuring that people have access to reliable, functional belongings. But our mission goes beyond repair. We are building toward programs that partner with local manufacturers and businesses to produce and distribute items like mittens, while also creating hands-on workforce training opportunities for those we serve.
At its core, the Duluth Sewing Project is about connection—bringing together volunteers, community partners, and neighbors to support one another through practical action. We believe that small acts, like repairing a zipper or sewing a seam, can have a meaningful impact, strengthening both individuals and the broader community.
Mission Statement
The Duluth Sewing Project provides free repair and sewing services for essential gear, supporting members of the unhoused and low-income communities with dignity, care, and practical resources. Through hands-on programs and partnerships with local manufacturers and businesses, we also create pathways for skill-building, workforce training, and community connection.
Duluth Sewing Project is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
